42 to Doomsday - Dragged from the Archives: 1982 (Part 1)
Episode 101 – We are back and we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the debut of the 5th Doctor Who by dragging through our fanzine collections of yesteryear, looking at all the Doctor Who news from 1982. It’s so chunky we are splitting this over 2 episodes! Travel back with us to the year where the first computer virus was unleased on the world, the greatest microcomputer designed by man was released and MJ was on top of the charts (Shamone!). In this episode we see how in Doctor Who Land fans were awaiting ‘Time ---- Flight’ with baited breath! Find out WHO topped the Daily Mail ‘Hero’ awards, there is an in-depth interview with the actress who played the Doctor’s companion Byssa (!) and coverage of the cancellation crisis of 1982 (and was the producer the first to know?) All this plus our new ‘Battle of Wits segment, listener feedback (both written and verbal), and by unpopular demand Mark unleashes his latest batch of ‘jokes’! #prayforrob

42 to Doomsday - Top 5 Master stories and NCUTI GATWA!
Episode 100 – Australia’s oldest Doctor Who podcast is back and what a way to celebrate our 100th episode by the BBC announcing the newest of new Doctors, NCUTI GATWA! Mark and (real) Rob gather to discuss the impact and implications of this stunning casting news before Mark and Melbourne’s own Rob Lloyd thrash out (our long delayed Top 5 Master stories - with a dash of real Rob and a whole heap of appalling acting!) as well as the suggestions from our loyal listeners / followers! So pour yourself and nice glass of TCE, drezzz for the occasion and strap yourselves in, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sticking with us for the last 100 episodes and here’s to 100 more (at least!)

42 to Doomsday - The John Nathan Turner Production Diary 1979-1990
Episode 99 - Mark and Rob are (surprised) and delighted to welcome acclaimed Doctor Who researcher and writer Richard Molesworth on to the podcast to discuss his soon to be released book The John Nathan-Turner Production Diary 1979-1990. Richard gives us an in-depth view of writing the book, the new nuggets of information he uncovered while putting the book together and offers a candid assessment of JNTs time as producer. We also discuss Richard's other work, particularly Wiped! Doctor Who's Missing Episodes and his involvement as Project Manager on the Doctor Who Blu Ray range including the upcoming Season 22 Blu-ray set! The John Nathan-Turner Production Diary 1979-1990 is released 1 May 2022, but we urge all our listeners to pre-order directly from Telos Publishing here: https://telos.co.uk/shop/doctor-who/jnt-diary/

42 to Doomsday - Simply the Worst!
Episode 98 – In this episode we flip the ‘what is the best story to show a non-Doctor Who fan?’ criteria on its head and discuss with the chaps from the Diddly Dum podcast ‘what would be the worst story you could ever introduce someone to Doctor Who?’ Both the classic and new series are not safe from their ‘suggestions’ including some ‘sacred cows’ (blasphemers!) being slain! Loads of listeners suggestions culminate in a Top. 10 countdown that surely will be on any Doctor Who fan’s ‘avoid’ list. All this and how will they ‘fix’ A Fix with a Sontaran on the upcoming Season 22 boxset, our thoughts on cash for conventions and the demise of Australia’s greatest TV export (and no its not Love Thy Neighbour – In Australia!)

42 to Doomsday Staff Xmas Party – Seventh Heaven!
Episode 97 – It's time again for our regular (and slightly delayed) 7th staff Christmas party (or as we are calling it our Summer Special!) where Mark is joined by Dave, Richard and Rob (via time eddy!) in a 2 hour plus extravaganza talking all things Doctor Who! We digest and regurgitate over Flux, discuss what makes a good TV producer, especially in the context of our favourite program, chat about our Top 3 Deaths in Doctor Who, Target Book Club where we revisit the novels of writers who only had one stab and then....our big one! That's right, the much heralded Fanwank of the Year Awards © where we nominate our ‘highlights’ for 2021. Does Big Finish runaway with all the awards, or do we have bigger fish to fry? So strap yourselves in as we chat and laugh our way through our topics. Plus, who is the Laura Ashley of Doctor Who and more importantly will Rob’s Time Eddy be able to smash through the Vortex without the power of Patreon funds!!??

42 to Doomsday - SHADA - A Review (from 1992!)
To celebrate the release of Season 17 on Blu-Ray which includes the 235th version of SHADA since it’s untimely(?) demise in 1979, Mark presents a soon to be award winning dramatisation / audio book / poorly impersonated reading of his then contemporary review of the J-N-T cobbled together version, which appeared in issue 73 of the Doctor Who Club of Victoria’s fanzine Sonic Screwdriver. An interesting footnote to this is that J-N-T did actually sell his memoirs to the Cardiff Pravda (a.k.a Doctor Who Magazine) after this ‘review’ was published! 42 TO DOOMSDAY WILL RETURN IN 2022!!

42 to Doomsday - Fake Views!
Episode 96 - We are back (delayed slightly more than anticipated) with our latest podcast where we debut our new ‘Fake Views’ segment where our ‘lovely’ listeners put forward scenarios that they know we are absolutely diametrically opposed to, forcing us to surrender all our morals and values to argue in the affirmative! Listen to us squirm whilst we expound on the musical genius of Keff McCullough, toss relentlessly as we argue that David Bradley is the ‘definitive’ First Doctor and listen aghast as Rob tears out his on entrails arguing that Horror of Fang Rock is not only the worst Tom Baker story ever, but actually predicted Brexit! All this plus our thoughts on the Galaxy 4 (our eyes!) animation, listener feedback and more rumours than a Fleetwood Mac album!! 42 TO DOOMSDAY WILL RETURN IN 2022!!

42 to Doomsday - Dragged from the Archives:1981 (and RTD2!)
Episode 95 - Just like RTD and ABBA we have returned, this time dragging our way through the archives for the year 1981! We've plucked the very best from the pages of Celestial Toyroom and TARDIS for your listening pleasure! But before all that we discuss the ‘Lazarus with a triple bypass’ return of RTD to our favourite television series. Using information from our mole burrowed deep into the BBC, we talk about how RTD pitched his new concept to the BBC to regain control in time for the 60th anniversary and beyond and then we discuss what his Five Year Plan means! Then we dig into the fan discussion of Season 18 - Kit Pedlar is dead! Marrying Time Lords! Did Uncle Terry sign on to novelise Evil of the Daleks? And what was the fallout of K9’s doggie bag?

42 to Doomsday - I’ll Take You To Blackpool!
Episode 94 – Doctor Who exhibitions are ‘showcased’ in this episode and helping us walk down the promenade of yesteryear are John Collier and Alex Storer, the team behind 2020’s FANTASTIC ‘Blackpool Remembered’ publication. We discuss the book which celebrates the legacy of the Blackpool Exhibition, and also other exhibitions that followed. We discuss how the publication came together, the sourcing, sifting of the many contributions from fans and exhibition staff alike and the reaction to Blackpool Remembered and what readers can expect from Blackpool Revisited. We chat about our experiences visiting the Blackpool Exhibition, what we bought from the shop, a ‘doppelganger’ Bessie and was it really the 6th Doctor downing a crafty pint at a pub in a small Welsh village? All this plus Rob and Mark’s delayed and muted response to the departure of the Pip and Jane Baker of the new series. Plus, we respond to our overflowing mailbag of listener's comments about their view of the current state of the Omni-Rumour ™ and another ‘What If?’ scenario is posed to us! 42 to Doomsday - Remember The Omni-Rumour?
Episode 93 - Tim, from The Missing Episodes Podcast is our guest as we mash up The Omni-Rumour and our popular Remember When segment! Tim takes us back to his youth, talking about how he became a fan of the show and how his interest waxed and waned through his formative years before he became enmeshed in the Missing Episodes Omni-rumour saga! Ah, the Omni-Rumour! That shambling shibboleth, that chimerical nightmare haunting the dreams of fans for almost a decade. 90, 19 or 9 missing episodes returned? How many Restoration Teams? Bicycling chains worthy of the Tour de France! Jos! Nigeria! Wigan! Tim takes us on a fascinating tour of the Omni-Rumour, what it was and what it meant! 42 to Doomsday - Collecting & COVID
Episode 92 - 2020 was a year like no other, and in this episode we are again joined by Aron Challinger, proprietor of Aron's Collectibles, to discuss the impact COVID 19 had on Doctor Who merchandising, particularly from a new series perspective. We find out what has (and what hasn't!) been flying off the shelves. We ponder the question: are manufacturers delaying new releases until changes are made to the series AND do fans really need to sell a kidney to own a complete set of Doctor Who WH Allen Hardbacks? All this plus is there any hope the situation will improve for the 60th anniversary? And once again, because Rob needs that Missing Episodes fix and we again venture down that rabbit hole to chew over the idea that the only way to reignite interest in the current series is the return missing story or three (*cough Marco Polo *cough)

42 to Doomsday - (Alternate) Pertwee Years!
Episode 91 - In a time when everyone wishes they were in a better, different universe, 42 to Doomsday returns with a special ‘What If’ episode, concentrating on the Pertwee era! But even better, bon vivant and comedian extraordinaire Rob Lloyd makes a welcome and triumphant return, chatting at length about the goodness of the Pertwee era, and all the things that might’ve been done differently! Liz Shaw gets a leaving story, William Hartnell appears in The Three Doctors and much more and what are our (and our wonderful listeners) episode picks for their Alternate Pertwee Years VHS! So buckle up, sports fans, because the greatest and longest running Australian Doctor Who podcast is back!

42 to Doomsday - Up (Peri) Scope!
Episode 90 – Up (Peri) Scope! - We are back and once again have dragged some beauties from the archives, but this time, with a difference! We’ve put DWB and the 90’s (temporarily) on hiatus and travelled back to the late 70’s / early 80’s of Australian fandom. We focus on our northern cousins (aka the country bumpkins from Queensland) and their (sometimes extreme!) contemporary views on Season 17! Gasp at the caustic contemporary editorials ranting against Season 17, cringe at the views in the letters pages that will make you want to take a long, hot shower and grimace at a ‘unique’ retrospective on Target novels and where they went wrong! All this plus will the lads react in their usual calm manner when presented with differing views on their favourite / worst Dr Who stories and more importantly, will Mark’s latest joke ‘efforts’ help Rob break out of his writing funk! Episode 88 - The Doomsday Weapon(s) are back! Rob and Mark are again joined by friends of the podcast, Dave and Richard, for our anticipated (and much loved) Xmas special! Your Xmas stockings will overflow as we discuss the Doctor Who stories we watched during lockdown and obsess over our Top 3 Doctor Who stories featuring plagues. Then we journey back in time for our Target Book Club where we chat about novelisations of historical stories. No 42 to Doomsday Xmas special would be complete without our Annual Fanwank of the Year award...what has set off snarky Marky this time. and for the first time in six years, will Big Finish lose the crown of biggest Fanwankers? Apologies for the sub-optimal sound quality hopefully it doesn't spoil your enjoyment!

42 to Doomsday - Should’ve Been Another Way?
Episode 87 - It's another 'What If' episode, this time looking at what could have been for Season 23! Which previous Doctor would we have chosen to appear in the Past segment of Trial of a Time Lord? Did the umbrella theme actually work. And gasp as we ponder what exactly is a 'reverse Samson'? All this plus a yet another bulging sack of listeners emails, plus we have a special treat as Mark embraces the blasphemous animations as we hear his thoughts on the resurrected Fury from the Deep...plus, listen in to Rob's emotional tribute to those Victorian's who have chosen to vacate the state post lockdown!

42 to Doomsday - Remember When
Episode 86 - In the first of a new and (hopefully) semi-regular segment we talk to ex-Grumpcaster and occasional Something Whoer Mike (aka Servo Robot) on his early memories of watching the programme. What was it like to live through Dalekmania? Is Wheel in Space any good? How exciting was it to watch Invasion of the Dinosaurs episode 1 (in full colour)? and why is Mike cursed to have seen The Space Pirates not once, but twice!! Mike shares his research on Doctor Who transmissions in Australia, in particular new information about how remote mining companies got to see TV in the early 70’s. And finally, riddle me this - how can a Doctor Who story with only one print be shown on the same day across three different time zones (*cough Duplicate Prints cough*) And what treasures could exist in the store...Bond store!
99 minutes | Aug 16, 2020
42 to Doomsday - What If?
Episode 85 - With our 'normal' reality in lockdown and frankly a bit pants, Rob and Mark go all Sliders (the TV show not the small burgers) and use our fanwank powers to discuss many ‘what if’ scenarios about Doctor Who as suggested by you our wonderful listeners!!! What if Ray Cusick hadn't designed the Daleks? What if Zoe had stayed on for Season 7? How about Mary Tamm as the 5th Doctor? What does the tv landscape look like if The Dark Dimension is made? And was Pigbin Josh the Watcher all along? All this, plus recommendations on 'family friendly' comedy films of the 1980's, the length of Rob's new 'rocking' lockdown mullet and will Mark's latest attempts at 'humour' finally make the Indiana Jones of film collecting hand over some 'artefacts'? (hot tip - no!)

42 to Doomsday - The Cannonball(s-up) Run
Episode 84 - Unlimited Doctors? More like unlimited Rice Pudding! The Timeless Children certainly set the the internet and fandom alight with its wholesale changes to Who canon. Rob, Mark and special guest Rob Lloyd try to unpack their feelings about the Series 12 finale and explore why changes to our beloved Who canon are met with resistance. Are there common threads/themes with other sci-fi franchises to be found? All this plus heaps of listener feedback mail, more ideas for Happy Finish productions and we ask the big question - would the world's most forthright Doctor Who Missing Episode hunters unite to help out the unemployed??
