Episode 65 – Why Is Preseason Like Vienna?
It means nothing to me. And apparently timely news means nothing to Cutler’s people, either. In true 3 Legs 4th Down fashion, a couple of hours had elapsed from us wrapping up the recording session when the news broke that Cutler was coming out of retirement. Speaking of true to form, the bad and tasteless jokes are flying as thick and fast as the not-so-silky smooth segues. There may be some whiplash involved as the guys bounce around from discussing the Worst Team In Florida(), injuries to QBs Ryan Tannehill and Joe Flacco and the latest accomplishments of Angry Phillies Fan (trust me, you are not prepared). Episode 64 – The Post-Draft Insanity Has Set in
If you thought the preparation for this episode was bad, you ain’t heard nothing yet. In this episode, the guys talk about biscuits, tortured analogies, Paul’s gaming equipment and Chris’ choice of motor vehicle. There’s also some football talk buried in there somewhere. We’re professionals, don’t you know. Episode 63 – It’s The Tony Romo Show
Tangents, we got em in spades (and probably in every other aisle in the garden centre too). Tony Romo has called time on his NFL playing career and has gone straight to the starting position in the CBS commentary box alongside Jim Nantz for the 2017 season. You’ve got wonder how he’s going to cope with calling games down the stretch in December though. Obvious jokes out of the way, it’s in interesting move on a number of fronts as the big speculation was all about where he was going to end up playing next year. While Houston was the favourite, there were another couple of teams in the running for the displaced Cowboys starter, but none of it was to be. We tried to talk about this on this week’s podcast, but as these things usually go, we found ourselves sidetracked by things like Belfast based wrestlers, the biscuit combine, Juan’s dad and lots and lots of podsnacks (you don’t have to listen carefully to hear the wrapper rustling). Episode 62 – It’s Not Madness, It’s Free Agency
I’ll take “Trades nobody saw coming” for $600, Alex… NFL free agency is under way, and it got off to a quick and manic start. Chris, Juan and Steve do their collective best to guide you through the twists and turns of who went where, who stayed where and who got cut. And we can’t get away without talking about that whole Arian Foster thing. So, of course – we do. Episode 61 – The Super Bowl That Got Away
What more can we say, except… wow. If you missed Super Bowl LI, you missed an absolute doozy. History was made, and the phrase “a game of two halves” – albeit lifted from a different sport – couldn’t be more apt. Who better to guide you through the madness of one of most memorable Super Bowls ever than Paul, Chris and Juan? We’ve also got our take on the latest coaching moves, and the upcoming free agents. Episode 60 – Wacky Super Bowls and Conspiracy Theories
If you don’t hear from us after this week, it’s because we know too much. Super Bowl 51 is upon us, and what better way to get ready than to spend half a podcast talking about anything but? We’ve got our takes on the latest news from the league including key retirements and a financial spanner in the Las Vegas works, and plenty of thoughts on the showdown to come. Don’t forget to keep the Facebook posts and Tweets coming in and if you don’t have time to listen to us here, you can always subscribe on iTunes and download the podcast to listen when you want. Episode 59 – Pro Bowl Mania
Well it’s not really as the Pro Bowl has been and gone now and did anyone actually notice? We did the whole of the podcast this week without previewing it! But what we did talk about on this week’s show was a pair or surprisingly one-sided Conference Championship Games that have given us a Patriots vs Falcons Superbowl that we are really looking forward to. Alongside this there’s the usual discussion about what’s going on around the NFL with the last of the coaching and front-office appointments being filled and a few questions on what players are going to be moving on either to new teams or to retirement for 2017. Sorry we’re a bit late this week, but there’s a serious Man-Flu epidemic raging on the Island at the moment and everyone knows how debilitating that can be, but we’ll be back to our normal schedule for Superbowl week! Episode 58 – 200% Relocation Regret
With the Divisional round in our rear view mirror, it feels only right to harp on some more about the Chargers relocation to LA, and the Raiders filing to move to Sin City. And it wouldn’t be a 3 Legs 4th Down podcast without some woefully esoteric injokes, either. We also, strangely, come to a consensus about how the following weeks will pan out. When there’s only 2 games a week, it’s hard to disagree. Episode 57 – Poppin’ Fresh Wildcards
Wildcard weekend was one to celebrate for home teams and one to forget for the visitors. And speaking of visitors, plenty of head coaches have been visiting new cities this week – so we’ve got our takes on the latest moves, as well as looking forward to the divisional round. It’s going to be fun, and not just because Kansas is facing a storm that’s giving schedulers a headache. There’s been a fair amount of scotch and wine consumed (happy birthday, Paul!) – so it’s not just the schedulers with headaches this weekend… Chris also offers up another apology – that’s two weeks on the trot now, can he go for 3? Episode 56 – We Like Our Mondays Like Our Tea – Black (and loudly slurped?)
As if the end of regular season wasn’t depressing enough, the last games herald the arrival of Black Monday. There were some surprises this year, but before we get too bogged down in that we have the usual round-up of what surprised us (and what mattered) from week 17, and a look forward to the playoffs. Of course, we’re as professional as ever from the word go. And Chris has a 3 Legs first – an apology to the listeners. Don’t forget to keep the Facebook posts and Tweets coming in and if you don’t have time to listen to us here, you can always subscribe on iTunes and download the podcast to listen when you want.
