In celebration of Black August, I talked to Nino Brown of the Party for Socialism & Liberation about his time organizing to save the Assata Shakur & Guillermo Morales Community Center in New York. In 1989, the center was dedicated after student-led protests at CUNY followed proposed tuition hikes. It served as a space for student organizers, LGBT and women's rights activism, and political organizing.
