During the Walter Cronkite era, the news trusted their reporters to simply report the news that happened in the day without the commentary. If you wanted commentary, you'd look at the editorial section of the newspaper or a magazine. You may even discuss something with your friends and family. But in today's world, the news reporters will insert their own political opinions here and there or question guests with a slant leaning either right or left. The results could sway an entire audience and nowadays news station/papers entire demographics could result in how we receive the news.
