YCT 20: Free To Perform On God’s Team
Jun 12, 2014
·
40 minutes
We are joined in studio by Matt and Dillan - two verified youths! - to explore what it means to be free to perform on God's team. Join us for Youth Challenge Today episode 20. Why Do You Believe What You Believe Josh begins the show by telling the story of Mai - a North Vietnamese exchange student - and her conversion to Christ. After many months of studying with her she made that decision, not because of Josh's ability to answer her hard questions, but because of love. She was amazed by the love that the Christians in her life had for one another. And isn't that exactly what Jesus said in the upper room? Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. - John 13:35 NLT Because these believers in Mai's life have love for one another she could see Jesus in them. Often people will believe exactly what they want to believe no matter what arguments, and facts, and figures are presented as evidence. But seeing lives changed can have a profound effect where debate often fails. It kind of reminds us of 1 Corinthians 1:18-30. Read that and see if you agree. Real Youths In The Studio Jon David brought a couple youths with him to the studio: Matt Bingham - JD's Summer intern, and Dillan Todd - a member of CHYGers (Chapel Hills Youth Group) where JD ministers. We asked why, as young people, they are concerned with talking to others about God. This ties in to what Josh brought up earlier from the first letter from Peter: But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect - 1 Peter 3:15 ESV This lead to one of Josh's famous roundtable questions: "Why do you believe and have the hope that is in you?" Free To Perform On God's Team JD's Schwartz On Sports segment really tied everything together on this episode. Just as the new 6 year, 60 million dollar contract guarantee that Colin Kaepernick signed gives him the freedom to perform without having to worry about his job next year, Christians are free to perform on God's team. When you have accepted the grace and love that he has given you, you are on God's team. You are free to perform. You are free to always be ready to explain your Christian hope. You have the freedom to live and show Jesus in your life. And you are free to love. The kind of
