The first step is to take a step back.

Gain some distance and find a more productive perspective. Writing is a joy and not the most stressful job in the world!

Don’t compare yourself with others nor try to emulate them. Each career is a unique pathway.

Defend time for creating new material – this is all you have to sell.

Maintain your health and wellbeing. Eat well, spend time with family and friends, exercise.

It’s not possible to work on everything at once, so concentrate on developing one aspect at a time – everything else goes into maintenance mode.

Try to be systematic – think and work in ways that avoid unnecessary repetition.

Keep key information to hand.

Ditch unproductive or unfulfilling commitments e.g. some social media is very draining.

Listen to your hunches. If you have a feeling that something needs addressing, then let it become your new priority. work on it. Set yourself a schedule. Define what success will look like.

Create a cycle for maintenance tasks, e.g. updating covers, blurbs, autoresponders, your website. could be 3 months, 6 months, annually.

Give back if you can, but don’t get over-committed.
