Over 2.6 million American men and women served within the borders of South Vietnam during the war and in recognition of our troops, all Vietnam Veterans will receive free admission all day long. Peek inside the Bell UH-IM Iroquois helicopter and learn about its two tours in Vietnam and tour the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., which houses an official war memorial to those who served in Vietnam. The museum will also offer their signature FUNshops and educational programming throughout the day: Huey Helicopter showcase Our Bell UH-1M Iroquois (aka Huey) helicopter saw action in the Vietnam War and has the battle damage to prove it. Learn about this machine—the most widely used helicopter in the world-- from veteran crew chiefs who served during the war. Helicopter Flight Funshop More than 5,000 helicopters flew in the skies above Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and they did everything from medical evacuations to air assaults. Make your own helicopter out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands, then launch it. Helmet Graffiti Funshop Soldiers wrote and drew on their helmets as a way to express themselves during the Vietnam War. Make your own “graffiti” on a plastic helmet in this FUNshop.
