Nightcrawler (2014), directed by Dan Gilroy, crime/thriller/comedy. When Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), a con man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story. We discuss the film (spoilers start at 25:30), how it's a very OBVIOUS satire and condemnation of how the mainstream media finds violent and sensational stories to attract viewers (if you miss the 'subtext' in this flick, just end your life, or at least never vote), how it's OUR fault because we eat it ALL up (when's the last time you watched the news to see something happy?), how the media uses the ignorance of all you 'common-folk' to force a narrative onto major events so they can make more money (Charlottesville?? Since when has there been Nazis in America??? SINCE THERE'S BEEN NAZIS! YOU IGNORANT FOOL! Read a book instead of just your Facebook feed. Once again, end your life, your existence is doing us no good). Next week - IT (2017)! PEACE OUT!
