Chapter 6
MXPX has a special place in the history of Tooth and Nail Records. They were the first band to break well beyond the Christian punk hardcore scene and into the mainstream. In 1992, they were 10th graders in Bremerton, trying to play at house parties. By 1996, they were on MTV, KROQ, and part of the global pop punk culture. This was an incredibly rapid rise, full of new elements to navigate, not only for the band, but for Tooth and Nail, who now found themselves in a different world and at a totally new level, setting a new precedent for what was possible for an independent label.
