Episode Info:

Every year I get invited to speak at the mind blowingly innovative STEM school Da Vinci Science by my great friend Jay Besina.  He teaches Anatomy/Physiology (now known as body systems) and when the curriculum gets to renal physiology he asks me to come in and talk about my experience.  Besina asks me to do this because one way to learn about how a system works is to learn about how it doesn't work, and what exactly happens when that system fails in every level.  Here is one of my lectures from the beginning signs/symptoms of renal failure, to discovery, to dialysis, to finding a donor, to transplant, and beyond.  I'm very aware that I'm not only telling this story in a way that's supposed to be instructive, but I'm also telling it to a room of high school students, so I also try to make it engaging and bury hidden lessons within the narrative.
