Episode Info: A story of Love, Guts, and Hustle with Marion Smith of Marion Smith Designs One could argue that Marion Smith has creativity in her blood. The men in her family are photographers, her mother, a florist, and grandmother, a potter. It would seem natural that she’d pursue some type of creative venture as well. However, the idea of turning her scrapbooking hobby into a multi-million dollar business seemed totally insane, until it happened. When she began searching for scrapbooking tutorials online, she couldn’t find the content she was looking for . . . so she created it. After being laughed at by her family, and even by herself, her videos began to gain traction. Eventually, she caught the attention of some big companies in crafting industry and that attention spurred her along the path to creative entrepreneurship. Marion’s dream became a reality when she was offered a job working with one of the industry giants. Her designs were making millions, she was featured in every major craft store around the world, and she quickly become a crafting celebrity. Underneath the surface though, things weren’t quite to nice. She recounts how the big players were making millions off of her work, while she saw very, very little in royalties. She recounts the morning she decided walk away from her dream job, take control of her own designs, and launch an independent product line that was completely sold out within 8 hours of launching. Listen as she talks about why she really got started in the business, the importance of knowing your real value, and how it took guts and hustle to build a 7-figure crafting business in just two years- without ANY debt and proudly made in the USA. *********** If you enjoy the show, show your support by sharing it with your friends, colleagues, and anyone else you feel would resonate with the message.
