Episode Info:

In this episode you will hear the first half of a conversation James had with Eric Maddox, the founder and director of Open Roads Media and the Virtual Dinner Guest project, and is someone who has travelled all over the world to visit and live in places that would not normally be high on the average travel bucket list. They talk about the real situation down on the ground in countries that might often be associated with adjectives like "dangerous" or "war-torn" like Egypt, Syria, Mexico and Palestine. Eric has previously spent a lot of time in Egypt, both before and during what we have come to know as The Arab Spring, and he talks about what life is like for the people who live there and how that compares with what a tourist will experience when they visit. He briefly talks about time he has spent in Syria since the start of the civil war there, before moving on to describe a little bit about a months long stint he spent living in a refugee camp in Palestine. Eric's Virtual dinner guest project is a beautiful idea that is working towards breaking down barriers between civilians within countries that are locking horns with one another due to the politics of their respective governments e.g. india-pakistan and USA-Mexico.
