Episode Info: The Podcast Movement In case you missed the news this past week, The Podcast Movement taking place this August launched their Kickstarter campaign. In just 9 hours...NINE....the campaign met its funding goal of $11,000! How awesome is our community? I was proud to be one of the first backers of the campaign and I couldn't be more excited to make my first trip to Texas. If you're interested in attending the conference in August there are different backer levels still available. Some of the backer levels are sold out but the Early Bird backer and the Saturday Night Fever level still have spots left. For more information about the Kickstarter campaign you can go to PodcastMovement.com. I hope that I get the chance to see you at Podcast Movement, it should be a great time! We should all give a big huge congrats to Dan Franks, Jared Easley, Gary Leland and Mitch Todd on their huge start to their campaign! Podcasting with Steve Lee of NetCast Studio Steve Lee is one of the best guys in the podcasting community, period. The man produces some amazing content and sports one of the best fu manchu's I've ever seen. Steve spent over 40 years in the Air Force and worked out of Edwards Air Force Base where NASA used to land the space shuttles returning from their missions. Steve got his START in podcasting back in 2006 when he decided to record the Skype conversations with his two sons about tech. "We were scattered across California and we each had a laptop and each had USB headsets." says Lee. "My oldest son is a manager of an IT company and my younger son was IT stupid. It was going to kind of be a comedy off of him but it didn't end up like that at all." Monetizing Podcasts Steve is fortunate that his IT company, Waves of Tech, funds NetCast Studio but he did have an interesting take on podcast sponsorship. "You cannot sit back and say 'Where are they?' If you're going to take that approach you're never going to get anywhere with a lot of things, not just podcasting." says Lee. "You have to take it under your own control, present your case! The best thing to do is create a podcast business plan, put it down on paper." In 2013 Steve also launched his own podcast directory called Two Thumbs Up Media. "If you go out to any podcast directory (outside of iTunes) they look like they were developed in the 1980's. You can never find what you want so I thought I would try something different." To check out some of Steve's awesome work and the shows over on his network gRead more »
