Phocas takes the city, and therefore the Empire. Admittedly, he has a scar down his face, and a pointy beard… but we should not judge people on their looks, this does not mean he is a bad man. The burning of people in the market-place however, that could indicate that he is a less than pleasant person… oh dear. Read more »

I was lucky enough to have just accidentally just came across this podcast but never really like to start a podcast when new (I listened about two days after the Augustus episode had come out) but I figured what the h*ll) Wow these two guys are complete and absolute knuckleheads and I love every minute of it. When the third or fourth episode came out I believe that I may have been called out by Rob and Jamie as being the first listener in Chicago. But I am guessing that these two will have a huge following very soon. These two have taken the formula of Rex Factor (another great show about the Kings and Queens of England, and now actually doing Scotland I believe)
I have always been a fan of Roman history as far as even taking a semester of college in Torino. Listening to these two guys do the show will quickly show you that you could just as easily be sitting in a pub with them and having these discussions instead of walking my dog or on the train going into work. They make the material both interesting and entertaining, and a great side note is that you will laugh hard enough a few times a show that the people on the "L" train despite being packed on the way into work usually leave me plenty of space because the think I am a lunatic. (added side bonus) This isn't a show for the people that think history needs to be dry and completely miserable, life isn't meant to be so boring. Although I am sure that those people will die of a heart attack the first time that Jaime just randomly enter the births, deaths, or marriages of minor characters takes place. (we have no dates for some of the events and the entering of the events is extremely comical because of the timing that Jaime puts these events into the story.
Sorry for the long review but honestly you have to listen to these guys, at least one of them is extremely knowable on the subject.....and the other has........ummmm.........great drawing abilities. If i ever jump the pond I would love to buy these two a beer and hang out with. Once again thanks for the laughs, the knowledge, and the space on the train.
