2 knowledgable fellas BUT...
I've found it increasingly difficult to find a well polished, organized retro gaming podcast these days. Retro Game Squad mostly delivers but I can only handle it in small doses due to Jeff.
Alex and John are very knowledgable. The former acts as host and does a suitable job while the latter mostly comments on issues he has experience with. Now, this is purely subjective. In a world full of online abuse I'm not trying to belittle or bully the guy but Jeff can be absolutely insufferable at times.
This is intended as positive criticism. Calling yourself "not good at words" or constantly reiterating your point at the cost of talking over everyone else doesn't make for a pleasurable listen.
The guests have all been a delight until he chimes in. Amanda is a particularly good recurring personality but she often can't get a word or thought across without being steamrolled by his ranting.
I've given it a 4 but it is more of a 3.5.
Maybe it is just a personal thing but I find it hard to believe no one else is annoyed by this when it seems even the "squad" themselves can be heard sighing at times.
My advice, for what it is worth...
Listen to the others in the room.
Reciting movie quotes, mispronouncing words and self-shaming isn't funny for 2 - 3 hours at a time.
I recognize that this show is performed as a hobby. It is very enjoyable on the days that I can tune Jeff out.
I'm sure I'll be lambasted for this as most other reviews have been perfect but it has been something that has been picking away at me. I don't typically write reviews but I would really like to start enjoying this podcast more.
