#34 Knowing What's Best For Your Business - Megan Flynn of M. Flynn
Today I'm speaking with Megan Flynn of M. Flynn in Boston's beautiful South End neighborhood. Megan and her sister Moira started their jewelry business over 10 years ago and opened their brick and mortar shop in 2009. They're old hat at this point and have seen their business through some major changes and iterations. Megan's background includes a Master of Science from Northwestern and a gemology degree from GIA while Moira boasts an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management. Both sisters were clearly on their way to huge things, but as they wrapped up their formal education the sisters both felt a definitive pull towards entrepreneurship. They followed this pull right into a long-term career in brick and mortar business ownership.
Megan and I talk about the ups and downs of working with a sibling, reevaluating your business each and every January and being flexible with your customers while still maintaining boundaries. We go deep about using Moira's MBA to their advantage and where it helps them and where it just doesn't apply when running a brick and mortar. I loved this part, because like a lot of you, I don't have a business background and I always wonder if having a more formal experience would help in running my business.
I'm excited for you to all hear this episode for all the above reasons, but mostly because, like me, you're going to get fired up by Megan's dedication to growing not only her brick and mortar but the community in which it operates. Enjoy the show.
