Planning Period Podcast
About This Show
Planning Period Podcast features Instructional Technology Coach Brad Shreffler interviewing teachers and other school stakeholders. As a podcaster, he is focused on making a guest centered education podcast, not necessarily talking to experts in any field, or focusing the discussions on one topic, but instead having a natural, comfortable conversation with a teacher and seeing where that discussion takes them. #EdBreakroom.

Episode 41 – School Safety Plan

Hello, and welcome to Episode 41 of the Planning Period Podcast, your #EdBreakroom. I’m your host, Brad Shreffler.
This week is a little different. Just over a month ago as I release this episode was the Parkland Shooting. As I write this, much of the restrained hope I felt that change was truly coming has dissolved. True, there was a bill passed in the state of Florida that is a start, and I continue to be amazed by the work and effort of the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, but I also have to accept the fact that these events will likely happen again in our country.
With that in mind, I sat down with Kristin Iannuzzi, who you may know from Episode 2 of the podcast, to talk about proper preparation and response to a school shooting. There is so much misinformation out there, and Kristin has made school safety her personal goal for the last 5 years.
I hope you will take the time to listen to this episode, and share it with your colleagues. So much of this applies to teachers regardless of their school or district viewpoints. I also hope you will show it to your leadership, but start with yourself.
So, sit back and take heed to Episode 41 of the Planning Period Podcast, School Safety with Kristin Iannuzzi.
Thanks again Kristin for joining me on the show. You gave us a lot to think about.
If you want to reach out to Kristin, you can find her on twitter @KristinIannuzzi. You can also see the powerful YouTube video of her students taking proactive steps in a drill by checking the link in the show notes. I highly recommend this to everyone.
If you have comments or questions about the show, you can always connect with me on twitter, @BradShreffler. I love to hear from you. That’s also a great place to connect if you’d like to be a guest on the show.
Until next week, empower your students and yourself to take action.
