On the Schmooze Podcast: Leadership | Strategic Networking | Relationship Building
About This Show
Welcome to On the Schmooze, a weekly podcast that features a mix of interviews and solo shows. My hope is that insights from me and my guests will help you achieve the leadership position you’re seeking, build and sustain your professional network, and find the work/life balance that works best for you. Interviews are with talented people from different fields. We explore how they built strong networks and overcame challenges on their way to becoming successful leaders. I identify a key take-away from each interview, something you can put into action that week that you’ll benefit from for years to come. In the show notes I provide resources to help you get started. Solo shows are shorter episodes where I share practical networking tips and techniques you can put into practice right away. Podcast inspired by Dorie Clark, Pat Flynn, Jonny Nastor, Dale Carnegie.Read more »

OTS 099: Leading with Integrity – Tamsen Webster
4 days ago
Today’s guest says she is part “idea whisperer,” part message strategist, and part presentation coach. What she does is help people and organizations like Verizon, State Street Bank, Ericsson, Johnson & Johnson, and Disney find their ideas and communicate the power in them.
Previously, she was the Executive Producer of TEDxCambridge, one of the largest and oldest locally organized “TED Talk” events in the world. She has also worked in agencies and nonprofits, heading up brand, marketing, and fundraising communication strategy.
With over 20 years in marketing, 13 years as a Weight Watcher leader (where she learned everything she knows about people, speaking, and change), and 4 years at TEDxCambridge, she developed a simple structure for understanding, talking about, and creating lasting change.
Her experience makes her an in-demand consultant for people and businesses who want to find the ideas that will move people to action.
Please join me in welcoming Tamsen Webster.
Would you leave an honest rating and review on iTunes? Or Stitcher? They are extremely helpful and I read each and every one of them. Thanks for the inspiration!
In this episode we discuss:
her thoughts on leadership: “The best leaders I’ve known are people who create the conditions in which you want to follow them.”
her thoughts on what makes a great leader: “The best leaders I’ve ever worked with are people who are willing to hear a perspective that is not their own and allow it to inform the decision, even if it doesn’t necessarily change it.”
how she finds her current work rewarding because she gets the pleasure of seeing people when the path opens up between what they know is a big idea and the process they need to do to make it happen.
her view on being a respected leader by leading with integrity and making the right choice, even if it isn’t the most popular.
her process for giving back to the givers in the world.
the Red Thread Concept she created: “I think most of us would agree that we can’t change what people do until we change how they see. And yet there’s this invisible connection between how we see and what we do. The red thread is what I call that invisible connection. The process I developed with working with people is a method by which you can surface what those steps of connection are so you can better explain them to other people so you can help change what they see and then what they do.”
