Exploring The World’s Hidden Wonders with Dylan Thuras and Atlas Obscura
5 days ago
A Hidden Forest Full of Monsters, A Genius Middle Finger, and the Best Place to Play Pinball and Wash Your Clothes: All That And More as Tonight as We Welcome Dylan Thuras, co-founder of Atlas Obscura.
Walk Out Tune ~ They Might Be Giants ~ Istanbul
Dylan's pursuit of the unusual began as a teenager exploring abandoned buildings in the mid-west and eventually took him and his wife Michelle to Budapest for a year, to exploring Eastern Europe's obscure and wondrous locales.
After co-producing an evening of wonders with Joshua Foer, the two began hatching plans for their next big project. Creating a way for curious travelers to find the hidden wonders of the world seemed like a heck of a lot of fun, and the Atlas Obscura was born.

Easily One of the Best Paranormal Shows Out There
If you have a sense of humor, curiosity about the world, and are open-minded, OKTalk is definitely worth checking out.
Just be warned, when you are a first-time listener and dive into some of the newer episodes, it can take a listen or two to get the rhythm down. There's an element of storytelling that really grows on you, but can be a little confusing at first. Past stories and events are recalled, which might leave you feeling out of the loop until you catch up (and I HIGHLY recommend catching up - it's so worth it!). Audio clips are played among host dialogue, sometimes without introduction. At first, I felt lost, but in no time I realized the genius in this approach. It's so immersive. I love it, and I wouldn't change a thing!
You can tell that the hosts are a couple of intelligent guys who like to have fun, but can get serious when the topic calls for it. I also REALLY appreciate their willingness to consider possibilities, rather than shutting out ideas without a fair hearing. It creates a place where real discussion can happen, and that's a rare find these days. Plus I love the occasional radio industry story. Even as someone who has no experience in the field, I find the hosts' tales of radio enthralling (and OMG the Screenless Sasquatch episodes are comedy gold)!
The comedy is amazing. I have heard every episode so far, and can't count how many times I burst out laughing. It's not a comedy show specifically, there's also lots of serious discussion. You really get a bit of everything when it comes to paranormal/legend tripping topics.
The topic list is diverse. Yes, there's a lot of squatchin' (and that's fine by me) but the show explores everything from other cryptids to ghosts, missing people, and folklore.
If you are a new listener, I highly recommend going to the oldest episode first and listening through. You won't be disappointed! Big thanks to Sean Forker from Arcane Radio for recommending this one on his show. I'm so glad I was introduced to OKTalk!

This show is so beyond fantastic. I stumbled upon it accidentally and instantly was hooked. Matt & Clint are SO fun to listen to. They are hilariously entertaining, they have the greatest stories, are so knowledgeable and have the best guests. I have been introduced to all sorts of crazy fortean things listening to these guys. Being from Dallas, I find most interesting the stories they tell of local lore, for example the Lake Worth Monster is apparently a thing? I want to be best friends with these dudes. (If you two ever need an extra person to go to a random cemetery with, I'm your girl). As a plus, even when they're not talking about "weird" stuff, they're telling super entertaining stories about a sketchy liquor store in Tyler or a Phish show or a creepy lady at Fuzzy's. Never a dull moment! Give a listen & you won't be disappointed!
