Myths and Legends
About This Show
Show Info:
Jason Weiser tells stories from myths, legends, and folklore that have shaped cultures throughout history. Some, like the stories of Aladdin, King Arthur, and Hercules are stories you think you know, but with surprising origins. Others are stories you might not have heard, but really should. All the stories are sourced from world folklore, but retold for modern ears. These are stories of wizards, knights, Vikings, dragons, princesses, and kings from the time when the world beyond the map was a dangerous and wonderful place.

Thank you so much. --- A new shadow rises to the north of Mali and an evil sorcerer king (and connoisseur of severed heads) will rise, but not before Djata, Sogolon, and others are forced into exile by the ruthless queen mother. It's part 2 of the story of Sundiata: an epic of old Mali. The creature this week is a good-guy African dragon who, in a refreshing twist, is the victim of all of his interactions with humans. --- Sponsors: Amazon Music Unlimited has millions of songs and you can start a 30-day trial free at http://amazonmusic.com Casper is the most comfortable mattress I've ever used. Great presentation!
The style in which you tell these tales is about as unique as it gets. You make ancient mythology understandable and FUN! I took an elective course in college and was bored out of my skull. If you were the professor, I probably would have changed my major. I've never been disappointed in an episode. I love legends and myths, especially when presented with humor. I'm 100% Lithuanian so anything you could dig up on the Baltics would be fantastic. Keep it up. Nothing beats learning and laughing.

An Addiction I am proud of
This is by far a once in a lifetime type of podcast that you can actually listen non-stop. the narrator brings a sense of character that makes you feel like your listening to your best friend. I am listening to the entire series each day and I am actually feeling anxiety knowing that I will get to a point that I will have to wait between episodes. Keep up the great work!!!!!

Great detailed show
I have been thoroughly entertained ever since I started listening to Myths and Legends. I use this podcast to learn more about popular and unpopular folklore and myths as I run. It keeps me entertained enough to forget I'm running- which is awesome. Jason does an amazing job going into to detail about myths, their backgrounds, and specifics viewers might not understand. There hasn't been an episode I didn't like! Thanks Jason!

The easiest way to explore myths and folklore.
The Myths and Legend podcast is probably the most enjoyable way of diving into the folklore of foreign cultures. The variability of locations and cultures unbelievably wide: China, Norse, Greek, Slavic, Celtic cultures are put into one podcast and each has its’ own placement.
Also, as a foreign listener, I find this podcast easy to understand and helpful in widening vocabulary. The host has skill in articulation and he's putting right intonation as in a sentence as in the story he’s telling. The few jokes are well timed and don’t steal attention from the main story.
The background music helps attract attention to specific plotlines and scenes, but it does not overpower narrators’ voice or the flow of the storytelling.
All in all, Myths and Legends podcast is an engaging, new and enjoyable way of looking at the folklore. If you’re interested in smart, original and unque re-telling of your favourite stories – this podcast is the place to go.

Charming
This podcast focuses on topics I'm already fairly familiar with... but told so engagingly that I get sucked in. I love the research, the amusing asides, the entire tone of the tellings. And I've heard a few stories I'd not encountered before, even on topics I thought I knew well. I recommend this podcast a lot! Love it.

Interesting stories, poor delivery
I wish the host wouldn't interject with his opinion of the stories as he goes thru them.
Just tell the story! I love mythology, but I understand it has to be taken with a grain of salt. Interjecting his thoughts on how stupid the this character was", or comments on "why this is action is even part of the story", detracts from the story itself. It interrupts the flow of the story. I was only able to listen to 4 or 5 before I gave up listening.

A podcast of the highest caliber
In a land of obnoxious, invasive ads, Myths&Legends reigns supreme. There are no ads (or if there are, I never notice, which is fantastic), the content is absolutely of the highest quality. A podcast is nothing without a pleasant voice to listen to, and Myths&Legends absolutely excels in this department. His voice is absolutely pleasant as he draws you into a distant time and place, oft times with humorous moments of editorializing. I'm always waiting for the comment, "it doesn't actually say that" after a particularly witty comment. I'm currently binge listening, starting from day one, something I never do for podcasts.
P.s. I abhor apple (I have a Samsung phone and use podcast addict) and had to find this stitcher website in the hopes that I'd hear my name on what has quickly become my favorite podcast.
Best of luck Jason and Carissa!
