Episode Info

Episode Info: While visiting relatives, Jessica watched as her grandma bent over a desk to balance the household checkbook. They had always accounted for every penny, but Jessica didn’t know where her money was. She went home, did the math and discovered $56k in debt from student loans, and credit cards, and car debt. That’s when Jessica heard about a financial literacy class from a friend and went full-bore. However, while taking care of her aging grandparents in Florida, she lost her contracting job. Finding herself in a soft real estate market with no money, Jessica got behind on her house in Minnesota and had to let it go. Her $100,000 condo sold for $35,000 in foreclosure. She was beaten down and emotionally vacant at that point. Jessica had no energy to continue paying down her debt, although she did avoid taking on new debt. A friend in an online community posted a challenge: “ What do you want to accomplish in the next 5 years? ” Her answer was “ Be debt free ”, so she got after it. In March 2015 she paid off her final debt, her student loans! Now Jessica is out there to give single women the motivation, support and accountability they need – just as she needed it years ago.
