Will You Always Dread Your Work?

Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.  ― Abraham Lincoln

I was recently reading an article that suggests that about 50% of the workforce is not happy with their jobs. If you fall within this statistic you may be asking yourself will you always dread your work. The good thing about this question is that you are the only one that can answer it.

If you are unhappy with your work make the decision to change that. Decide what you want to do and where you want to be. If you are not sure start researching work that interest you, learn different skills, and experiment with different work. Remember you have the ability to decide and change things; do not give this power away to your supervisor, government, or even family.

You have heard me talk about this before, decide. It’s the third step in the five step process to breaking the “OH NO IT’S MONDAY!” cycle. If we want to find happiness in our work, even in the work we dread we have to decide. Make a decision of what type of work you would like to do; this will give you direction, a goal.

After you have decided on the type of work you would like to do, you can then start looking for the parallels between the work you want to do and the work you are currently doing. For example, if the type of work you want to do requires you to lead and speak in large groups. Look for opportunities in your current work to lead and speak in groups.

Having the ability to relate your current work to the work you want to do is a great way to find happiness in your current work.
