Stagnant Storytelling: Canadian Media Portrayals of South Asians
A special episode to comment on Canadian news media portrayals of South Asians, Sikh identity and race. Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is the catalyst to this conversation, but we know that this type of stagnant storytelling by Canadian media has been going on for a long, long time. Like 104 years to be exact.

Canada as we know it now turned 150 this year but the road to this point hasn't always been sunshine and roses. This podcast shines the spotlight on a piece of Canada's history that doesn't make it into our social studies text book. It is heart wrenching to think about what minorities in this country were put through. It's something as a South Asian woman in today's world that I cannot imagine. These people weren't even treated as second class citizens as they weren't thought enough about to give them a class at all.
Milan, Naveen and Paneet do a wonderful job navigating through the history of these reclaimed souls. Their knowledge, passion and humor gives new life to the rediscovered stories of the nameless.
