McCall Dempsey is the founder of Southern Smash, a non-profit dedicated to raising eating disorder awareness and promoting positive body image through events where they (literally) smash scales with hammers. McCall is a warrior and has come a long way in her recovery from her eating disorder but, recently, she has been on another road to recovery; recovery from grief. In May of 2015, McCall's 8 month old daughter, Marjorie, was diagnosed with cancer. McCall tells us how this devastating news put her life and career on hold but eventually helped to give her a fresh perspective on life and a renewed sense of gratitude. Marjorie is now 2 years old and cancer free :-)

The most useful resource for my recovery
I have been listening for over a year now and can honestly say that Jessica's podcast has been the most helpful and influential tool in my recovery. I've suffered anorexia for a decade and experienced much treatment with varying degrees of success. Recovery Warriors opened up my world to self-discovery and is a friendly, supportive and motivational voice in my ear. It made me realise that recovery, and indeed suffering, from an eating disorder is about so much more than one's relationship to food. Discovering the community of beautiful, inspirational people out there, all fighting the same battle to develop their authentic selves, has been instrumental. Even though we warriors will probably never meet each other, I am honoured to be part of this army.
