Sunlight is the source of all energy on the planet. Plants turn the sun's energy into life by a process called photosynthesis. Not only is this how plants get their life, but animals too. Herbivores eat the plants and then they are eaten by carnivores. Without the sun, the world as we know it wouldn't exist.
But doesn't the sun cause cancer?
Yes and no. Though the sun can cause cancer, it is much better at preventing cancer than causing it. Sunlight prevents cancers that are more common and more deadly than the potential cancers it can create. Just like with water, we have to be smart about our sun exposure. Just because we can drown in water doesn't mean that we shouldn't drink water. We need water, and sunlight, to not only survive, but to thrive! The solution is to be smart about our sun exposure. And that's what this episode is all about!

sunlight triggers the release of "feel good" neurotransmitters such as dopamine.
sunlight aslso suppresses melatonin, which helps wake you up in the morning. It can also keep you producing when you're supposed to, at night, if even the smallest amount of light is on.
harsh detergent soaps can inhibit vitamin D production from sunlight on your skin. It can take up to 48 hours for the vitamin D to processed enough for our bodies to uptake it.
3 types of UV rays: UVA, UVB, and UVC.
UVC rays are filtered through the Earth's atmosphere and don't reach us on the surface.
Simply put, UVB rays are good because they produce vitamin D. UVA rays are harmful.
Windows and some sunscreens only block beneficial UVB rays, while allowing the harmful UVA rays in.
If you're going to wear sunglasses, make sure they block 100% of all UV rays.
The best protection from the sun is inner protection from nutrition.
Antioxidants are great for sun protection. Berries and astazanthin supplements both great sources of antioxidants.
