Episode Info:

Today I am psyched to introduce you to the artist Elizabeth Mooney. I was introduced to Elizabeth through a good friend of mine who met Elizabeth at the artist residency, Skowhegan. I not only love her paintings because of her paint handling but also the concept she is working with. Elizabeth’s paintings talk about how technology and the economy have impacted the North American landscape and the tradition of landscape painting.   Her work explores these ideas through play with the horizon line and layering of form and line. One thing I really love in her work is also how she plays with the consistency of paint from layering transparent areas to a thick impasto application. In this episode, she talks not only about her paintings but also her kinetic sculpture and printmaking.   We also talk about format/size, “How to keep it fresh”, the shift that can occur in your work due to relocation and how her work was influenced by her assistantship to the artist Michael Mazur http://michaelmazur.net/.   Elizabeth Mooney lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her MFA in 2007 from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, studied as an undergraduate at the Lorenzo De Medici School in Florence, Italy and received her BFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design. She has been the recipient of various grants, presented her work internationally and is a phenomenal teacher. Seriously listen to her talk and you would want to have her as your faculty member. She is currently faculty at Wellesley College in Wellesley MA.
