Fishing Yoyito Podcast
About This Show
This podcast is about the people, the salty dogs, the subsistence fishermen, sports fishermen and the adventurers, that make up this colorful community. But it is also about family, friends, food, and making memories. What you would talk about, with your best friend, when you are out the in the great outdoors. There will be stories, funny, sad, and perhaps some angry ones.
On each episode, will go fishing with a different person, and we’ll talk about all things related to fishing, life, love, politics and even religion. Not everyone we interview, will have views that you, or I share, but I hope, this will be a vehicle for understanding our fellow human beings, and together, learn how to have conversations that matter. After all, there is only so much, you can get, out of talking about the weather.

Fishing with Captain Rob Ottlein
Mar 3 2016
On this, our very first episode, we spend the day fishing with Captain Rob Ottlein. Our journey began at Flagler Beach on the Matanzas river boat ramp. We meet up with Capt Rob at 10am and quickly boarded his flats boat, a very comfortable and capable 17′ vessel. It was a beautiful day, with blue skies and a gentle breeze. The snook were not yet active, as this was the last day of February and the water temperature was still pretty low. We concentrated on fishing the finger canals the abound in this area of the river, targeting speckled trout, blues and mangrove snappers. It was a real pleasure, watching Capt Rob’s fly fishing mastery, with his fly line cutting through the air, like a white serpent and finally landing a tiny white fly just inches from the shore.
We talked for hours, about fishing, life and even politics. His indepth knowledge of the area and decades of experience was self evident. I learned about the history of Flagler Beach, the challenges of being a charter boat captain and his perspective on the state of fishing in this area.
