Episode Info: Primrose asked how she can make her podcast appealing to the public, apart from the content. In essence, what will give some "Oomph" to a podcast, so that everybody will want to listen to it.  I like that ... giving your podcast the "Oomph" factor! In terms of making your podcast appealing, there are 4 things that will encourage listeners and the growth of your podcast. Niche It Down Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, make your podcast specific to what I call "Oholics." You know like chocoholics? People who are passionate about your subject won't be able to get enough of it and so these are the people you want to cater for in your podcast and ignore everyone else. These are in essence your tribe who will share you podcast with others, talk about your show and talk about you to other people. Build Your Audience  This goes hand in hand with number one really. Whether it's on social media, iTunes, on your blog or wherever you publish your podcast, you want your target audience to know you're all about them. You want to speak with them, share tips with them outside of the podcast and generally let them know you care. Invite Conversation Make your tribe or community feel involved. Invite questions, comments, feedback and use these to create more content based on what they're asking for. Use their names when reading out the questions, comments and feedback because we humans love it when people acknowledge us personally and it also makes them feel more connected to you. Don't Sacrifice Audio Quality Poor audio quality will kill even the best content. Whilst you don't have to go out and spend $400 on a Heil Pro, a $100 Blue Yeti could make all the difference to the number of people who will listen in. People are generally just intolerant to poor audio quality and so your objective should be to aim for the purist sound quality you can afford. That means that the quality of the built in microphone on your computer or mobile device, just won't cut it.  When you're starting out as a podcaster, I think these four tips in addition to great quality is what will give you the edge or the x-factor!
