Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People
About This Show
1 phone call. 1 hour. No names. No holds barred. Thats the premise behind Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People, hosted by comedian Chris Gethard (the Chris Gethard Show, Broad City, This American Life, and one of Time Outs 10 best comedians of 2015). Every week, Chris opens the phone line to one anonymous caller, and he cant hang up first, no matter what. From shocking confessions and family secrets to philosophical discussions and shameless self-promotion, anything can and will happen! Theme song by Shellshag.

With a combined 200 years of life lived, a retired dentist and an amateur artist chat with Gethard about staying creative as you get older, living a fulfilling life, regrets and the fear of death. One key lesson: travel if you can, but skip The Mona Lisa, it’s just not that interesting.

Reminiscent of a summer camp fire circle
Like Chris lovingly references in the show, the conversations are generally coming from a middle class, white, artsy crowd. The host tries his very best to not to become an armature mental health professional for the caller when they inevitably break down about a very vulnerable experience. The atmosphere is reminiscent of summer camp fire circle, where an individual feels a overwhelming sense of self reflection and has one of the rare opportunities to share it with an audience that will not follow up with them.
I am personally drawn to the show to hear the kind, well intentioned reactions from Chris and his team, who definitely help feed the conversation with notes. Helps bring a little prescriptive.

If you're looking for something different, sincere, emotional, playful, light, heavy, gross, and just a pinch awkward... then you'll find something you like within. Each story is unique and offers a portal into a stranger's life. You may connect with them or you may just find their story interesting. Either way, you will be entertained.

A wonderful show full of love, fun, and humanity
I never would've guessed a call-in show with a comedian would have so many beautiful moments. The best is when the caller comes from a completely different background: Chris is always able to find some common ground and gets callers to share really revealing parts of themselves. Check it out.

Chris is totally awesome, and so is this podcast. Even though the format never changes, you never really know what to expect, and Chris does a good job keeping things fun and upbeat, even when the conversation gets a little dark.
