Episode Info: In this episode of Digital Avenues Hangouts, Sam Hassan talks to SEO Expert Michael Dodd about 5 basic SEO steps to get your website on Google first page. Michael told us that No. 1 Position in Google Gets 33% of Search Traffic This is why you need website to be in the top 3 results to have steady flow of traffic to your website which means more leads to your business. We started by differentiating On-page from Off-page SEO, on-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are controlled by you or by coding on your page. Examples of on-page optimization include actual HTML code, meta tags, keyword placement and keyword density. Google want to give people what they are looking for, Google would like to serve the right answer for what you are looking for. 1-  What you should write in your Header & Meta Tags, Page title & Description. This should be unique for each page of your site. 2- How to name your images and should you use (-) or (_), what is Alt tag for image and why it's important. 3- Your page content, Google recommends having at least 1500 words and make sure you have relative content. 4- Sitemaps, search engines like Google is using Sitemaps to find their way to index your website content, make sure you have a Sitemap and keep it updated. 5- Try to avoid inline CSS, it increases load time and decreases the website performance and this affects your rank. Check your site against W3C standards and your web developer should be able to fix these issues for you. Sam asked Michael if SEO should start with web design or after web design, Michael answered clearly that web designer & SEO expert should work together on the website from the beginning of the project to avoid rework and to benefit your website. Heading tags and how important to use with the title of the page and keyword, and other titles to use based on importance but don't misuse it to avoid getting penalty by Google. Michael also highlighted how important for your website to be mobile friendly, Google lately changed their search algorithm and will give less attention to the sites that are not mobile friendly.
