Episode Info: Church. It's a word that we have all heard over the years. It has various meanins to various people. If you are "religious", it could mean some many different things. For example, it could the building you go to on the weekend. It could be the event that takes place. Or, for some of you more radical people, it could be how good that service is or isn't. Scripture talks about it often as well, but in a different way than we do most of the time. Let's take a look at this word and what it is all about. Not Another Verse of the Day Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. -2 Corinthians 4:1 Lessons About Our Calling * Awareness of our calling - "We have this ministry" We have the opportunity to be aware of the calling on our lives. You may not know it now, but if you seek, you will find. Take time to ask God what He has for your life and what "ministry" you can step inot. This does not mean you need to step into a pulpit. It simply is another way of describing your purpose and calling. * Awarding of Our Calling - "Through God's mercy" We understand that everything we have is a wonderful gift of God and not by our own works. We have received mercy to walk in newness of life and, therefore, have a high calling to fulfill for Christ. Let us remember this and walk in humility. * Attitude of Our Calling - "We do not lose heart" It is easy to walk away when things get too hard. But, knowing we have this calling and understanding it is a gift of God's mercy, we can keep going. We must not "lose heart" when life gets rough. Original Language The Greek word translated as "church" is ekklēsia (ek.lay-SEE-ah), which literally means "assembly." Depending on which translation you read, it is found nearly 100 times in the New Testament. It is a combination of two other words, meaning "out from" and "to call". Therefore, we can gather that this word has the idea of "the called out ones." Early Christians may have chosen this word for a variety of reasons. One of these reasons
