THIS IS RADIO CLASH! This is the Music Supercast on INTERNATIONAL CLASH DAY (KEXP Seattle) - Today with Steve Sladowski of PUP and Uncle Clarkie, Justin Clark from F Scott & The Nighthawks, we celebrate The Only Band That Matters as Toronto's Mayor John Tory proclaims FEB 7 officially as International Clash Day in Toronto.
WHEREAS, legendary UK band The Clash formed in 1976, founded by Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, and Paul Simonon, creating a signature sound blending Punk with Reggae, Dub, and Ska with a socially conscious message. throughout their career, the Clash used the power of music to share messages of peace, unity, anti-imperialism, anti-racism, and freedom of expression. the City of Toronto has long been recognized as playing a vital role in the musical and artistic culture of Canada and beyond, and has represented to the world the progressive values of diversity, tolerance, and multiculturalism, as well as a bit of rock and roll rebellion. The Clash chose the City of Toronto to perform four times during their celebrated history, playing on:
○ The 20th of February, 1979, at Rex Danforth Theatre;
○ The 26th of September, 1979, at O’Keefe Centre;
○ The 5th of September, 1982, at Exhibition Stadium; and
○ The 30th of April, 1984, at Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens;
the citizens of the civically and globally minded City of Toronto, who have been inspired by The Clash and the spirit of their message, wish to join with other like-minded cities across the globe in celebrating International Class Day. the City of Toronto adheres to the belief in the immortal words of Joe Strummer, “People can change anything they want to, and that means everything in the world,” as we work together to create an inclusive, welcoming community for all. Toronto declares the 7th of February, 2018, to be International Clash Day. I encourage all citizens to Rock the Casbah and Stay Free!
