Episode Info: We like to mix it up a little bit here on the Crewlab podcast, and for this episode, we're keeping it fresh with a new take. This week, I sat down with my buddy Vincent Guidry to talk all things John D. Rockefeller. For years now, John D. Rockefeller was one of those historical names that I recognize as important and with great legacy, but I wasn't 100% sure what he was all about. I knew he was involved in the oil business and was one of the more important of the Robber Barons, but beyond that, the details of his life and business somewhat escaped me. So I started reading one of his biographies, Titan by Ron Chernow, and slowly began to develop a fuller picture of JDR. Then, a couple weeks back, in a Hacker News thread dedicated to Amazon of all things, I came across a poster who was speaking extremely intelligently about JDR, making great comparisons between JDR's business practices and those of Bezos at the helm of Amazon. That HN user turned out to be Vincent Guidry, and I'm excited to have him on the show today to talk more about John D. Rockefeller, his legacy, and what we as entrepreneurs should learn (and be cautious about) from one of the greatest capitalists in American history. Enjoy the episode. Rockefeller, Sr. Music This week, we're going with a song that's been stuck in my head for months now: Magic! - Rude (Zedd Remix) I can actually pinpoint the exact time and day this song was firmly planted into my brain. Back in September, I went to Hardwell with a big group of friends here in Saigon. I'd been hearing this song off and on for weeks (it's not really a new one...), including the originally Magic! version which the Vietnamese cafes have in regular rotation. But the song was always just in the background. Anyways. Hardwell was an absolute blast, and this song (among others) in particular stuck with me and I've been stuck on it for going on 2 months now.
