AVOIDING TOUGH TOPICS

Many business bloggers avoid tough topics, like death, that dig down deep into our darkest fears. This is because most people feel that strong topics like this are depressing to business-focused readers and will drive away or prevent this type of audience from engaging. There is some truth to this. However, if you understand your audience, you are tapped into what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear. Those who know they need what you have for them will stay, even if they stay as silent readers.

So, for those of you who are listening quietly out there, here are some tips on how to deal with disability, and even with death, while building a new business or transforming an existing business, non-profit or ministry. Unfortunately, my family and I have been dealing with both for years now. It has been a tough era for us. Evenso, I know for sure that lessons I have learned can help you to #StartUpStrong and to keep moving forward with confidence, despite personal setbacks, so that you can continue to #MarketLikeAQueen.

During the upcoming 4th Annual Market Like A Queen Conference, on Monday 12/5/2016, I will dig dug a lot deeper into this topic of dealing with death and disability while building your business.

This was will be during the private intensive session. I gave practical, useful information. I will help you to incorporate what I am teaching into your own unique marketing strategic plan in a way that aligns with your life. In this way, you will be able to find a harmonious flow for your schedule and your budget so you can keep moving forward over time, despite whatever life keeps throwing at you.

Instead of pretending like tragedies, like death, don’t really happen, let’s be prepared. Ok?

WHAT TO TACKLE FIRST WHEN DEALING WITH DEATH AND DISABILITY #1 Acknowledge And Cope With Emotions

Before you start to make your practical plan, first you have to acknowledge that you are a whole person with real feelings. No matter how successful you are or how passionate you are about your business, dealing with disability and death within your family is very tough. Pushing your emotions down – ignoring them or stuffing them away with unhealthy coping behaviors – will only set you up for a huge implosion later. So, make the choice to acknowledge your very real feelings now. Don’t wait. And learn healthier ways to deal with them, instead of turning to your old addictions or compulsions. Otherwise, you will be forced to deal with your emotions later, at the least convenient times.

If you are a parent, also be proactive in helping your children deal with their emotions, too. This is much easier once you have begun to deal with your own emotions in a healthy way. Seek out your pastor or a family therapist for extra help, especially if you have not yet dealt with this kind of grief in the past. Your children will be so grateful that you helped them to push past the hards times, too, especially as they grow into adults who will need those skills later in life.

#2 Get More Business Help

Make a plan for who on your team can handle certain tasks; and set a budget for hiring consulting help from pro’s like us, if needed. For many women leaders, there is a great temptation to be strong for everyone and to do everything perfectly for everyone. If there is no better time to get help, this is certainly the time. While you are stretched with being a chauffeur, with being a travelling caregiver to relatives who live far away from your home base, or with managing all of the funeral arrangements, it is okay to ask for help.

#3 Rest More

Put automated systems in place that keep your business running while you get more rest to process your grief and other emotions. This could be pre-scheduling blog and social media posts using automation tools. It could look like simply asking your contacts to enter their own email addresses in your opt-in form on your site or on your Facebook page, instead of writing down a contact’s info and entering it yourself.

There are many options for how to make this automation process work best for you. Our Market Like A Queen Team’s goal is to help point you in the right direction on what to do first or what to do next. This can help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed by all of your choices. When you attend the annual conference on 12/5, we will help you with understanding what are your best automation options during the intensive session.

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO AUTOMATE CONTENT

While travelling or waiting in line during errands, choose to read more and write more, instead of talking or playing games on your phone. Do your research and writing for your upcoming blog article, podcast or other content. Also, when you get to your destination, set aside short blocks of time to be alone with your laptop or recording device. You do not have to spend every waking moment engaging with your grieving family. You need a little time to yourself, even while in the midst of the tough times.

Also, again, reach out for help. If you have hired a team of marketing pro’s like our team, ask how much they charge for preparing content for you based on your research notes or outline. After the content is written and edited, you or one of your team members can post it to your blog, facebook page or youtube channel. Instead of publishing it immediately, schedule when it will go live.
