MOVIE REVIEW:

The Golden Lion is the most prestigious award a film can receive at Venice Film Festival and is regarded alongside the Palme D'Or and Golden Bear, the highest prize awards at the Cannes Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival respectively. This year, Joker won the Golden Lion and garnered an eight-minute standing ovation.

Alongside immense critical praise, Joker has also seen its fare share of criticism. Considered irresponsible and even dangerous, Joker finds itself under flack for what others believe is too hyper-violent and cynical.

So where does Joker actually land? Is it as ground-breaking as Venice Film Festival would have you believe, is it as unsafe as publications say it is or is it a bit of both? Or, maybe neither? Press that play button, and I'll letcha know!

Tune in weekly for new episodes of Cinematic Doctrine!

Joker is Rated R for strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images.

It features Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Zazie Beetz.

Directed by Todd Phillips.
