Episode Info: What are we not understanding about suffering and God? And do we know how to be a good friend to those who are going through a hard time? Today’s guest, Esther Fleece, shares hard-won wisdom on the beauty and benefits of biblical lamenting. Esther was recognized as Christianity Today’s “Top 50 women Shaping the Church and Culture” and CNN’s “Five Women in Religion to Watch”, but was hiding a painful past that she had developed coping mechanisms for so that, rather than being healed, she simply appeared to be a successful overcomer and achiever. In Esther’s book, “No More Faking Fine”, she shares the biblical response of lamenting our pain to God to bring not just healing, but a deep intimacy with God and stronger faith. In our conversation, we talk about: * what lament is and isn’t * biblical examples of lamenting * the benefits of lamenting * why we don’t hear much about lamenting * principles of and wisdom with lamenting * how to be a good friend to those going through hard times I think this is an area that we really need to grow in as Christians – for our own personal relationships with God and then for our relationships with others. Hard times can tempt us to draw away from God rather than using those times to experience the comforting side of God and see how He redeems the hardships.
