Episode Info: As of October 1 2013 you can get health coverage through Health Insurance Marketplace through HealthCrae.gov. Open enrollment ends March 31, 2014. If you do not have coverage you may  have to pay a fee. Small business can go through Small Business Health Option program (SHOP). Health Insurance Marketplace is meant to be a single online source and point of access for consumers to get information on health insurance options. Each state will have a Marketplace either run by the state or by state and federal partnership or through the federal government. Health plans offer comprehensive coverage. People can buy insurance through a Marketplace if they live in the United States, are U.S. citizens or Nationals, and are not incarcerated. No one can be turned away or charged more due to gender or preexisting medical condition. There are different plan categories: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The differences are based on the average percentage costs will cover. People can apply online, by phone, by mail or in person. Specific benefits can vary with each state . Here is a comparison of how it affects households in an article on Yahoo Finance: A 30-year-old fast food-cook living in Chicago and making $18,000 a year could expect to pay, on average, $98 a month for a bronze plan after receiving financial assistance. The same worker could expect to pay $156 a month for a silver plan, also after a subsidy. A 50-year-old preschool teacher living in Chicago and making $30,000 a year could expect to pay $261 a month for a bronze plan, or $352 a month for a silver plan, after qualifying for a tax credit. A Chicago 40-year-old freelance writer making $60,000 a year with a stay-at-home spouse and two children would pay $522 a month for a bronze plan or $716 a month for a silver plan. In Springfield, the family would pay $270 a month for a bronze plan or $495 a month for a silver plan. Links: Healthcare.gov Video on the Healthcare law Healthcare information from Freelancers Union
