Episode Info: Facebook and Twitter are no doubt two giants in social media. Used correctly, they help a freelancer to success.  But Linkedin is another powerhouse site that can bring a new dimension. This business oriented site gives the opportunity to connect with others in a distinct way. Think of Linkedin in comparison to Facebook. It is your suit and tie business professional in the 9-5 career. In contrast Facebook is the happy hour after work and enjoying your weekend type of site. The two can help complement each other by targeting specific audiences. There are obviously certain types of services linkedin may not be effective for. But business and careers can really benefit.  Here are some benefits of using Linkedin: People have similar interest and will be drawn to your services People in the same career field and have an understanding of what you want to accomplish People in the same groups provide support Linkedin can bring people to your network due to an affinity to you and your field. Not as many users are on Linkedin as compared to say Facebook but quantity could be made up for in quality in relation to the focus of your project. Facebook is a professional site used by professionals. People with experience and expertise can be found throughout the site. Linkedin allows you to connect with leaders in fields. You can also find peers in your field that can be a future resource. The professionalism associated with Linkedin and its users can help establish credibility. In using the site, establish relationships and be authentic. Interact in forums and discussions on the site. Ask questions to members of groups. Every occupational area is represented in Linkedin and people are always willing to help. One of the things I personally like about Linkedin is participation is measured and recognized in Groups and discussions. The more you participate by contributing content, asking and answering questions, and participating the more you are recognized. Top influencers are promoted on the site drawing attention to themselves and their profiles.  This could be wanted attention that can bring awareness to your cause.
