Welcome to the first episode of The Idiot’s Crusade! The podcast about cancer, heart disease, and other things that make us laugh. In this episode I introduce myself – a 43 year old neurotic father of three who survived a nasty bout of colon cancer when I was 34, and then underwent bypass surgery when I was 42. What can you expect from this podcast? Glad you asked. Conversations with other cancer survivors, folks currently battling cancer, people who have loved ones who went through cancer and how it affected relationships. We’ll also bring you informational episodes where we look closer into what cancer is, how it develops, and how to treat it. We’ll also talk to medical experts. While the primary focus will be on cancer, we’re also going to look at one of the leading causes of death in the United States – heart disease. Because, you know, it’s just one more thing that almost killed me. And in between all of that stuff, we’ll talk about South Park, Archer, Mark Maron, and other things that are making us laugh. This week’s guest is my son, Jimmy. We sit down and discuss what it was like for him to watch his father go through cancer, and then later go through heart surgery. He also talks about watching another close family member lose a very short battle with cancer. It’s a good insight into what it’s like for a child to watch a parent deal with serious medical issues. Hey – I’d love to hear from you! Have you gone through cancer? Going through it right now? Want to talk about what a loved one went through and how it’s affected you? Then drop me a line if you want to join me on the show and we’ll sit down together and shoot the shit. Or send me an email if you just want to offer some feedback! Same thing if you have that urge to send hate mail – after all, haters are going to hate, and that’s all right with me. firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks for joining me! - Brian Next week’s show: Bill Flowers, a long-time co-worker of mine, opens up about his current ordeal with fighting colon cancer.
