Episode 50 - Tyler Babin: Waking Up Everyday Doing What You Love
1 day ago
Episode 50: While on a trip to New York City in 8th grade there was something about the city that pulled Tyler in and he felt it was a place he needed to be. Growing up in Tallahassee, Florida was a much different place than the hustle and grind of Manhattan. At 23 years young he is the art director for Gary Vaynerchuk and living a life that almost feels like a dream. Fortunately for Tyler his parents were always very supportive of what he wanted to do and as he began to explore his passion for magic he slowly was opening up the door to another one; filmmaking. His father was a successful lawyer and mother who worked hard in the medical field. Both of which having a strong educational background, they pushed Tyler into community college. He didn’t want to just “get a job” and this was buying him more time to figure out what exactly he was going to do. Loving Gary Vaynerchuk’s content and still thinking about moving to New York, Tyler found himself working as a design intern for Vaynermedia. When full-time positions were offered to the two interns he had working alongside he was devastated and began thinking about what his next move was going to be. Tyler set up a brief meeting with Gary as his last day was approaching which ended up turning into a forty-five minute taxi ride of the two of them talking. Tyler was given him a one month internship to personally work for him and within two weeks he had a full time offer presented before him to work as his art director of his personal brand “Gary Vee.” In this episode Tyler discusses staying a child at heart because then you’re never scared of anything, people do not have a good enough relationship with the fact that they will die one day, creating content that is impactful, working with a small team and capturing ideas that might not be used now but could be used later, wanting to do too much and not recognizing where he is at, focus on one thing at a time and getting really good at it, working alongside Gary has taught Tyler to live without regret, everyone is wrapped up in their own shit and doesn’t care as much as you think they do, even with how much you think you know there is always something to be learned and waking up everyday doing what you love.
