Episode 29 - Cultural Identity and Living the Double Life with Iori Forsyth
Almost half of all Australians are either born overseas or have at least one parent from another country. That's a lot of people who have had to come to terms with their dual identity. For some of us, the difference between these cultures is minor, but for others a mixed background makes you an outsider wherever you go. This episode Caspar speaks with 28 year old Japanese-Australian Iori Forsythe. Iori grew up in both Australia and Japan, and always struggled to reconcile this dual identity. In her adult life she has championed cultural exchange. She works for the Queensland Government promoting high school education exchanges between Japan and Australia. Iori discusses her struggle to find her sense of belonging, her passion for bringing her two worlds together, and the cultural differences between Australia and Japan. This episode was edited by Nina Roxburgh and features music by Big Gigantic.
