Tip of the week: Pre-Write on ALL writing questions
When I was in school, I absolutely hated planning my writing. I mean that is just so boring, PLANNING, just do it all ready!? Right? Well, not on the iBT.
Planning your writing with a mindmap, t-chart, or other organizational form is a good way to keep yourself on task when time is limited. It can be really easy to get lost, or make a mistake and then realize that your essay has slowly become disorganized, or missed key information that is central to your point.
Generally, spending 3-5 minutes planning before you write will help you focus on your language use, instead of trying to generate ideas as you go. The result, is a higher level of accuracy, and a calmer experience during your writing.
All that said, planning quickly IS A SKILL, so it takes a bit of practice to get it right. It is absolutely essential to getting a good mark on the TOEFL iBT. So, plan your essays! Measure twice, and cut once.
