Episode Info:

In this episode, the gloves come off and sh*t gets real. We’ll expose the flaws in the “marketing to moms” strategy. For example, there are 85 million mothers in America. We are both moms, but our experiences are totally different. We break down what happens when you use mom stereotypes, why using fear and shame is ALWAYS a bad idea, and how the marketing industry feeds these negative practices. And as always, we’ll offer some takeaways for marketing and advertising folks to “do better,” and enjoy a sour libation: Dogfish Head Sea Quench Ale Session Sour.

Takeaways:

  • Don’t market to a gender. Market to a targeted audience built on insights and data.
  • If you’re going to market to moms, don’t mom shame. Instead, do your research and market to the actual personality and insights that make up your mom persona.
  • Don't amplify harmful stereotypes.
  • We as industry leaders need to stop producing “market to moms” ebooks, infographics and white papers. Stop being part of the problem and start doing better.
