Douglas was raised in Huntsville, Alabama in the shadow of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center with an interest in sports and rockets. He earned his MD at the University of Alabama, completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas at Houston, a Fellowship in Cardiology at The Texas Heart Institute, and has practiced cardiology in Orange County, California, for the past 40 years. Douglas is an Amazon #1 Bestseller and critically acclaimed nonfiction author with a dozen prestigious literary awards to his name. He writes four fiction series, as well as the ROYAL PAINS media tie-in novels.
