Annaghdown is a truly historic place – from the ruins of the monastic settlement and cathedral beside Lough Corrib, to Cregg Mill and the ruins of St Cathal’s Church in the east of the parish, the area is filled with buildings and structures of historical and archaeological significance. This is complemented by a wide range of of folklore, together with a strong tradition of, and interest in, the Irish language, with the west part of the parish situated in Gaeltacht an Eachréidh.
