Start Up Gap Questions 1. How did you get started? Tell us about yourself and how you got started. I think I have a really great story about how I got started investing in real estate. I teach a lot of seminars and there are so many people coming in wanting extra income or their retirement flamed out, so many different reasons. For me I had never actually thought about being a real estate investor. It never crossed my mind. In my 20’s I waited tables. In my 20’s, it was the 80’s, so I was into that whole disco, dancing, Studio 34, and all the things I should not have been doing. For work, I mostly just waited tables, tended bar or something like that. In my late 20’s I got married, decided I definitely wanted to have some kids. I wanted to be a stay at home mom and raise babies. So I’m married, I’m 30 years old, I had my daughter and I thought this is going to be great. I’m going to stay home, I’m going to have kids, and this is going to be fantastic. Then when my daughter was eight months old my husband and I unexpectedly parted ways. So, now I’m 30 years old, I have an eight-month-old child. I have no formal education, no real job skills. I have nothing. I thought, oh my God, what on earth am I going to do now? The main thing for me was that I made the decision that I was not going to raise my daughter in the daycare system. I thought, I waited all the way until I was 30 to have kids, I thought what I picked was a good guy, I was crazy about him at the time, and I thought I don’t want to put my daughter in daycare and go back to work. So what happened was I started searching for something that I could do from my house. I could raise my daughter and work from home. So you have to remember now, this is like 20 years ago.
