Elia Timotheo is the founder and managing director of East Africa Fruits Farm and Company Ltd. Deals with production, aggregation and distribution of fruits and vegetables. Holds a bachelors degree in accounting and finance from Mzumbe University in Tanzania. East Africa Fruits Farm and Company is moving into the use of modern technology to improve the quality and shelf life of fruits and vegetables. We will set up irrigation systems and make use of greenhouses for some crops. Cold value chain logistics will be used increase shelf life of produce. These include use of refrigerated trucks and cold rooms. We are solving the problem of Post Harvest Losses in agriculture, specifically in fruits and vegetable production. This is highly attributed to poor storage facilities, poor transportation and handling systems as well as over dependence on seasonal weather. These problems affect small holder farmers in Tanzania which slows down the agriculture sector in the country. This innovation involves use of cold chain logistics to improve storage, handling and transportation. Adaptation to climate change is enhanced by making use of irrigation systems and greenhouses in production.
