Episode Info

Episode Info: Last week in Episode 4, we (Clay and Melissa) talked about kids and technology, specifically the cell phone.  Now days, kids are getting cell phones at a younger and younger age.  Most kids in their tween years are desiring a cell phone but parents are finding it difficult to navigate those waters.  In this week's episode, we share about a conversation we had with our daughter regarding her desire to get a cell phone.  We share how to talk about cell phones with your kids without just saying, "No", and without everyone getting upset or frustrated.  In our discussion, we use a tool called the 5 Common Topics which promotes an open discussion with your child without it being emotional or drama-filled.   Doesn't everyone want that?  We hope this week's episode will be encouraging and give you the tools you need to talk about anything with your kids. Here are some resources about the 5 Common Topics... Handout: 5 Common Topics by Antiquated Notions.  (Print out and use the next time you want to have a discussion with your kids.) Article:  What is Rhetoric? by Classical Conversations (This will give you a great overview of where the 5 Common Topics come from if you don't have time to read a book.)
