Ithaca Minute – Skate park graffiti, GrassRoots camping
4 days ago
Here’s the Ithaca Minute from 14850 Today for February 19th.
Hours after Ithaca residents spotted racist graffiti in a southside skate park on Saturday morning, community members gathered to paint over the hatred and add images of love. Community members quickly organized a painting party at 5pm Saturday, bringing paint suitable for covering up the graffiti.
“We take this despicable act very seriously,” Chief of Police Pete Tyler said on Saturday afternoon. Chief Tyler says the incident “is all made worse by the fact that it was done at a skate park, a place that children play and grow and flourish.”
The GrassRoots Festival is still months away, but vehicle camping spots go on sale this Monday, and there are several changes — including pre-selecting your site. The biggest change to camping at the GrassRoots Festival this year is that the organization now owns property across Route 96 from the Trumansburg Fairgrounds, and all off-site camping will be there. No more camping, or parking, on Agard Road.
And Cornell men’s ice hockey swept their weekend games against Brown and Yale, and will finish the regular season on the road at RPI and Union. Cornell’s women host an ECAC quarterfinal series against Princeton this weekend.
