Web Services Manager

As a Web/Services Manager at Stitcher, you will lead a fast moving development team, working to bring new features to our website and our mobile client apps. Our website is a go to spot for listening to and sharing all forms of audio content on the internet, and our content management portal provides our content partners with the ability to manage their content, as well as unrivaled set of metrics on content consumption.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and mentor a team of developers working on our web properties and developing the RESTful services that support our mobile clients and 3rd party integrations (Sonos, Alexa, etc.)
  • Provide technical leadership in terms of discovering, investigating, procuring and integrating new technologies into our server-side development environment
  • Work with our product team to plan the implementation of our product initiatives, and with our QA team to test the results of those initiatives
  • Work with our marketing team to create and improve various online promotional materials
  • Work with our data team to ensure that all our systems are properly instrumented to ensure our ability to measure the effectiveness of our efforts and to monitor for reliability

What You'll Bring To The Job

A passion for creating great user experiences while maintaining an aggressive, but pragmatic approach to scheduling and deadlines. Additionally

  • 5 years of experience, with 2+ years in a leadership position
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive approach to working with other teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with a breadth of web and server technologies, but with a focus on the LAMP stack, and Laravel
  • Experience with client/server systems
  • Comfort and familiarity with best practices in terms of code integration and deployment (CI/CD methodologies)

VP of Engineering

As the Vice President of Engineering at Stitcher, you will lead a fast moving product development team, working to bring new features to our our popular mobile client apps, websites, consumer device integrations, partner services and more.

What You'll Do

  • As a key member of the technical leadership team, work with CTO and product team to develop and maintain the long term product roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the mobile, web, server, data, DevOps and QA leads to manage the execution of projects on a day-to-day basis. Work to coordinate their efforts and maintain clear communication between them and more broadly with other parts of the organization.
  • Use your positive attitude to motivate the team to achieve more than they thought possible, coaching them along the way and holding them accountable in a way they appreciate and learn from.
  • Continually provide feedback to and solicit feedback from your team. Manage formal performance review process, compensation recommendations, and career growth planning.
  • Drive technical project planning, overseeing the creation of LOE estimates and supervise the integration of those estimates into an accurate schedule that is communicated to the team and managed on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage the growth and organization of the development team through both recruiting and the professional development of the existing staff. Work with management team on strategic planning and budgeting for current and future years.
  • Work closely with CTO to evaluate and integrate appropriate emerging technologies into Stitcher's technology arsenal.


What You'll Bring To The Job

An ability to apply your strong leadership and organizational skills towards building and maintaining a world class, media-focused technology development team. Additionally:

  • 10 years of experience developing and/or managing web technologies (LAMP, Python, ELK), client-server technologies (RESTful strategies) and mobile technologies (iOS and Android), ideally at companies with a popular consumer focused media product(s)
  • 3+ years in a similar leadership position
  • Excellent people skills - people love working with you and would love to work for you again
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you'll play a key leadership role within the SF based product & technology organization but also will need to communicate with stakeholders throughout the company (NY, LA offices and Scripps team in Cincinnati)
  • A proactive approach to working with other teams and stakeholders - you have a natural ability to keep people informed and avoid mismatched expectations
  • An ability to maintain a positive, enthusiastic leadership style, while still holding your team accountable for delivering high quality products on time

This is a great opportunity to join a small product team and have a large impact on the product and the industry. The Designer will be responsible aspects of the UX and visual design for our mobile apps (iOS and Android), our web app, our automotive and consumer electronics integrations, as well as our partner portal and back office tools. You will work directly with Product Management and Engineering and you'll have the full support of the Director of Design to help us deliver world class products to podcast fans and creators around the world.   • Define design problems and goals, then translate complex requirements into simple, elegant and effective product concepts.
  • Play a central role in a major redesign of both product and brand in 2018-19, which means lots of exploration and mock ups - bring your imagination.
  • Produce production level comps, style guides, and assets that are pixel perfect and act as blueprints for the development team. Work effectively with developers through each sprint see your designs executed, working through tradeoffs along the way.
  • Work with the Director of Design to evolve the visual design of the product based on brand updates, target audiences and an encyclopedic knowledge of current design trends.
  • Work collaboratively as well as independently. When working independently, use your organizational and communication skills to set and hit desired timelines.
  • Be a champion of and expert on the Stitcher brand - uphold design and brand standards by assuring your designs fit the visual framework.
  • Collaborate with the extended team in New York and Los Angeles on various projects.

What You'll Bring To The Job

The ideal candidate will be passionate about great design, consumer software design and podcasts. They will bring great ideas and enthusiasm to the process and team combined with an ability to expediently execute in a fast-changing environment.

  • Experience designing native mobile apps (we are mobile first) as well as desktop apps, and websites (including mobile responsive sites) from concepts to wireframes to mockups.
  • Expertise creating software designs with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Sketch.
  • An understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • A strong hierarchy/layout/typography skill set.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to confidently believe in and pitch your ideas to the rest of the product team while staying humble enough to hear and leverage the opinions of others.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience wireframing and user testing (A/B live testing and in person ad hoc testing) complex product flows.

DevOps Engineer

In this role you will work collaboratively with our development, data and operations teams to deploy and operate our systems, and help automate and streamline our operations, controls, and processes. You will design and build tools for deployment, monitoring, automated testing, and operations and help troubleshoot and resolve issues in our development, test, and production environments.   • Develop our top-of-class CI/CD pipeline to speed time to deployment while minimizing errors and downtime

The ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about developing great consumer software products and successfully scaling them. They will bring great ideas and enthusiasm to the process and team combined with an ability to expediently execute in a fast changing environment. They will also have:

  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration
  • Strong background in complex AWS cloud environments
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Chef or an equivalent
  • Ability to use a wide variety of open source technologies and cloud services (experience with AWS is required)
  • Strong experience with SQL and MySQL (NoSQL experience is a plus)
  • A working understanding of code and script (Shell, PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby)
  • Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service
